NEW YORK – A chilling mass shooting early Monday evening in Midtown Manhattan claimed the lives of an NYPD officer and at least four others, with several more injured, before the gunman took his own life, sources confirmed.

The suspect, identified as 27-year-old Shane Tamura, a Las Vegas resident, stormed the 44-story office tower at 345 Park Avenue—home to major firms including Blackstone and the NFL headquarters—armed with a rifle. The shooting began around 6:30 p.m. during the evening rush hour, sending the normally bustling area into chaos.

Surveillance footage obtained by The New York Post shows Tamura entering the building moments before opening fire. Police later discovered a vehicle registered to Tamura with Nevada plates parked near the scene, along with a rifle case inside.

The attack resulted in multiple casualties, including the NYPD officer who was on paid detail in the building and later died from his injuries. Four other victims were also confirmed dead, and several individuals remain in critical condition.

Authorities responded swiftly with a Level 3 mobilization, one of the highest emergency alerts, deploying SWAT and tactical teams to secure the scene. The suspect barricaded himself on the 32nd floor before turning the gun on himself, ending the deadly rampage.

NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch confirmed, “The scene has been secured and the shooter has been neutralized.”

The incident prompted a shelter-in-place order for East 52nd Street between Park and Lexington Avenues, with surrounding streets closed and nearby buildings evacuated or locked down.

The motive for the attack remains under investigation.

345 Park Avenue, built in 1969, is a major business hub in Midtown Manhattan. The tragedy has sent shockwaves through the city and renewed concerns about security in public office spaces.

This is still a developing story. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.

So many of the comments on here are the Lashon Hora; often wrong but never in doubt. The shooter bought his rifle in Nevada and drove to New York. He was a high school football star with a long history of mental illness. The police officer who was killed was Muslim, the news this morning reports the shooter had some sort of fixation in the National Football League. The incident had NOTHING to do with Gaza, Palestine, EY or Muslims (other than the uniformed officer who was killed while working an additional security job to earn some extra money for his family). If you want effective gun control then don’t vote for people who vow to weaken them.

Let’s see. A guy is walking around in midtown nyc carrying an assault rifle and know one calls the cops ? He walks into a building with security and guess what no one calls his police until he starts shoting
Seems about right for nyc. Maybe that’s why people are fleeing to safer locals

Many shuls hire security guards but I highly doubt that they would be able to deal with an armed assailant.

I hate to say this reminds me of the police response to George Floyd a bit!!! (Why is the firetruck blocking the video/scene? it appears as if the plain clothes officer is showing him to park right there) what prompted the police officers to begin CPR it does not look like they were moving him in a coordinated way as ems would be moving a patient during cpr? why is only one officer part of the cpr there should be another officer checking his carotid pulse to make sure the compressions are effective as well as others ready to take over the rotation? why are they moving the patient away from the building where there is likely an AED if they want him to survive? other videos show numerous ambulances in front of the building why are they moving a patient in cardiac arrest not on a stretcher to the nearest ambulance? as well as why is EMS not involved if the patient is in cardiac arrest they seemed to be present on scene??????????????

Wesley LePatner, a prominent financial executive who rose to run a flagship real estate fund at Blackstone BX -0.30% was among those killed by a gunman in New York City on Monday evening. LePatner was the firm’s global head of Core+ Real Estate and was named chief executive officer of Blackstone Real Estate Income Trust last year.
A Yale University graduate who joined Blackstone in 2014, LePatner was a face of the firm’s real estate arm and shared her work on social media.
LePatner said in a post on LinkedIn this past spring that she was grateful to Blackstone for hosting events for Take Your Kids to Work Day, “giving my son and others in the next generation the opportunity to learn about the amazing work happening at 345 Park.”
Accompanying my own parents to their offices back in the ‘90s is a core memory of mine—watching them seamlessly balance demanding professional careers with our family life was truly inspiring and showed me that anything is possible with dedication and determination,”

Following a shootout near a bank, which they had just robbed, (in Feb., 1997), two armed robbers in L.A. (north Hollywood), with automatic rifles, and wearing body armor, fired over 1,500 rounds at the L.A. police. The shootout lasted over an hour. The cops fired over 600 rounds at the robbers. It was the largest shootout among a municipal police department in the USA, in history. As with the horrible shooting incident yesterday, in Manhattan, the NYPD was outgunned, as routine patrol officers do not possess automatic weapons. Only specialized units of the NYPD have such weapons. L.A. learned its lesson from the 1997 shootout, and issued automatic rifles to it patrol cars, to keep with them while on patrol. They vowed never again to be caught short, as their standard weapons and shotguns were useless against the body armor of the robbers. It was a miracle that no cops or civilians were killed in that shootout. Hence, the NYPD should do what L.A. did, and issue automatic weapons, to all of its patrol officers.
