JERUSALEM – An IDF drone team from the Golani 13th Battalion thwarted a deadly ambush on Wednesday, spotting a 12-man Hamas squad armed with rifles and RPGs lying in wait along a key logistical route in Gaza.

The terrorists, concealed under blankets to evade aerial detection, were tracked as they prepared an attack just 100 meters from a recent IDF clash site. Though a Hermes 450 drone was dispatched, poor weather prevented an immediate strike.

Instead, the terrorists were observed fleeing into a nearby tunnel after apparently spotting the drone. IDF forces later confirmed the group had coordinated their movements with a Hamas UAV spotted in the area.

Officials called it “a well-planned incident,” crediting drone surveillance and footprint tracking in powder-covered terrain for preventing casualties.
