MONTREAL – A deeply troubling video circulating online shows a Jewish father in Montreal being beaten while walking with his three young children in what appears to be an unprovoked attack.

The footage captures the moment a man, seemingly disturbed, approaches the family and assaults the father without warning at Beaumont–De l’Épée Park. The children can be seen standing nearby during the incident, visibly shaken. At the end of the video, the attacker is seen throwing the father’s kippah to the ground.

Community leaders are condemning the attack as yet another sign of rising antisemitism and warning that inflammatory rhetoric can fuel real-world violence. “Words have consequences,” one community member said, calling for swift action by authorities.

Hampstead Mayor Jeremy Levi had harsh words for Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, posting on X:

“This is beyond deplorable — it is an outrage against basic human decency. In the heart of Montreal, a Jewish father is savagely beaten in front of his children. This is the Canada that Mark Carney has allowed to fester — a place where weakness in leadership has emboldened brutality. Hampstead made a different choice long ago. We refused to bow to complacency. We increased our Public Security budget by 50%, ensuring we are ready, capable, and unwilling to depend on politicians who lack the courage to protect their own citizens. We will defend our people — every time, without apology.”

Montreal police have not yet released details about the suspect or possible charges. The video has sparked outrage among residents and on social media, where many are demanding justice and stronger protections for the Jewish community.

If a law doesn’t protect a community and there are no legal ways to defend oneself, a community has every moral right to act outside of the frame of law.
Organize, arm up, lawyer up, shoot first.

Won’t lie. It’s also disturbing that the father didn’t/couldn’t fight back.
