Thanks to their swift and coordinated efforts, the suspect was brought safely ashore and taken into custody without further incident or injury.
Police officials have commended the officer’s bravery and quick response, highlighting the commitment of NYPD personnel to protect the community under any circumstances. While the officer’s identity has not yet been disclosed, her actions have already earned widespread admiration.
“This is a testament to the courage and professionalism our officers display every day,” said a police spokesperson. “Their willingness to put themselves in harm’s way to uphold the law and keep New Yorkers safe is truly commendable.”
The NYPD continues to investigate the incident and plans to formally recognize the officer for her exceptional service.

She did her job over And above. Denigrating her actions just shows jealousy. You’d wish she was on duty if you need help!
Next time let him drown!
Brave officer! We need more like her everywhere.
Waiting for the NYPD speed boat or helicopter to join would have probably given the suspect ample time to swim to Iceland. Still, this was not a very smart and safe move by the female officer, endangering herself. It’s police arrogance. He was not a violent criminal. Just a car thief.
Wow. Ok. Good dedication. But that was stupid and dangerous. Where was the criminal going to go already. He’ll tire out and has to come back sooner or later. The NYPD also has speed boats and helicopters that could have been dispatched. This animal could have easily drown this cop. He could have even had a gun on him and the cop left her gun outside the water. Not smart at all.
Better she worked in the office as a secretary
