JERUSALEM (VINnews) — In a remarkable story reflecting the complexities of Israeli society, a young Jewish man, whose mother is Jewish and father Muslim, converted to Islam after October 7, 2023 due to the authorities’ refusal to enlist him in the IDF, and is among three suspects recently arrested for planned terrorist activity.

The youth lives with his father, a Muslim resident of the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Kafr ‘Aqab, who, along with another accomplice, is accused of preparing dozens of explosive devices with the intent of carrying out terror attacks, mostly against security forces and some against civilian targets, including a planned bombing at a nightclub in central Israel.
The three suspects were arrested on June 30 by the Shin Bet and the Central Unit of the Jerusalem police. All are residents of Kafr ‘Aqab. Their arrests were made as part of an undercover investigation (code-named “Matrix”), during which a covert agent provided evidence that, beyond weapons trafficking, the main suspect was planning terrorist attacks aimed at murdering Jews. The investigation also revealed that the suspects were in contact with the terrorist organization Hamas.
Further investigation uncovered that about a year and a half ago, the father had carried out a shooting at the Qalandiya checkpoint, a fact that went undetected at the time and only came to light during the current investigation.
According to the findings of security officials, the young man, who converted to Islam and moved in with his father after being rejected by the IDF, was trained by his father in weapon use and indoctrinated with hatred and Jihadist ideology. Evidence was also uncovered indicating that the son had prepared equipment to carry out a bombing at a nightclub in central Israel but backed out due to fear of being stopped at a checkpoint and concern that his family’s home would be demolished. Ultimately, he refrained from committing the attack.
Searches carried out during the investigation led to the seizure of dozens of explosive devices, weapons, activation systems, and bomb-making materials, including potassium, nitrogen, pipes, metals, and vehicle gas canisters. Many of these items were purchased in gardening centers for tens of thousands of shekels.

A senior officer in the Central Unit described the case as one of the most serious he has ever handled, stating:
“These are residents of Kafr ‘Aqab with Israeli ID cards who were involved in the acquisition and manufacturing of explosives. They planned to carry out multiple simultaneous attacks, including car bombings at checkpoints targeting security forces, and attacks using ‘dummy’ vehicles loaded with explosives. They had connections with terrorist cells and made concrete preparations to execute their plans.”
According to the investigation, there was also an intention to assassinate someone believed to be an Israeli Air Force pilot. However, it later turned out that this person was not a pilot, meaning the plan would have failed even if carried out.
The suspects’ remand has been extended several times, and indictments are expected to be filed against them tomorrow.

Plenty of Arabs serve in the IDF. There was a reason they didn’t enlist him – & there you have it.
A few years ago, a gentleman from an organization in Israel, which rescues Jewish women from Arab spouses (in Arab communities in Israel), spoke at our Shul. I asked him why these Israeli Jewish women, marry Arabs to begin with. He told me that they don’t always realize that their future husbands are Arabs to begin with, and that the Arab men speak fluent Hebrew, and initially are very nice to them. Afterwards, when they realize the minefield that they have entered, and are trapped in very abusive situations, that organization rescues them, and brings them into Israel proper. I don’t remember the name of that organization, but they do very good work.

Arab society is heavily patriarchal & islam & clan membership are passed down the male line so there is no need for reversion. Islam does not have the xian & jewish “conversion”.
It’s a Muslim commandment to marry Jewish women and bear Muslim children. Likely the mother also converted whether by force or by choice. Sad that Yad l’Achim could not rescue this situation. How wondrous it is when they do succeed.
