The tragedy took place during the yeshiva’s summer program in Kerhonkson, New York. Yosef Yehoshua was immersing in the mikvah when he came into contact with an exposed electrical current and went into cardiac arrest. Emergency responders from Hatzalah of the Catskills arrived within minutes, managing to restore his heartbeat before transferring him to Westchester Medical Center in critical condition.

For two weeks, Yosef Yehoshua remained hospitalized as Jewish communities across the United States prayed fervently for his recovery. Thousands took on personal commitments and good deeds in his merit, a reflection of the strong sense of unity his plight inspired.

Family and friends described Yosef Yehoshua as a beloved and dedicated young man, whose presence brought joy to those around him. His father, Eli Friedman, is well-known in the Jewish community as a leading event producer and a man of remarkable generosity.

His father marked the loss with a moving WhatsApp status: “Thank you, Master of the Universe, for 17 years.”

BDE. What a horrible tragedy. That being said, me thinks someone hired some shoddy/cheapest/unlicenced contractor or some fly by night “Jack of all trades, master of none” guy. Or did they totally ignore the problem or procrastinate even though they were aware and warned of it as is all too common ??

Did anyone present know how to do CPR? Did they have a defibrillator at the camp? Or did they wait for Hatzalah to do both?
