The move came a day after Jerusalem blocked Spain’s Deputy Prime Minister Yolanda Díaz and Minister of Youth and Children Sira Rego, citing their outspoken anti-Israel positions.
Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares said his government “fears nothing” in response to possible Israeli retaliation, insisting the measures were taken “for peace and human rights.”
The dispute followed comments by Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, who accused Israel of “exterminating a defenseless people” and announced an arms embargo. Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar condemned the remarks as “hostile and antisemitic,” accusing Sánchez of using anti-Israel rhetoric to distract from corruption scandals.
