Authorities said 58-year-old Adeeb Nasir of Magna was taken into custody following a raid on his home after a suspicious incendiary device was discovered under a news outlet’s vehicle in Salt Lake City. The device, which had been lit but failed to detonate, was confirmed to be real and posed what officials described as a “significant threat to public safety.”
The FBI, along with local bomb squads, evacuated nearby homes as they searched Nasir’s residence. Inside, agents reportedly found two hoax weapons of mass destruction, firearms, explosive components, and illegal drugs. Nasir, who is legally prohibited from possessing weapons due to drug use and a protective order, was arrested alongside a second suspect identified only as “Adil.” Both men allegedly admitted to police that the devices were real.
Federal prosecutors say the pair’s actions could have caused mass casualties. Nasir faces multiple felony charges, including two counts of manufacturing or possessing a weapon of mass destruction, attempted aggravated arson, and making terroristic threats. He is being held without bail in Salt Lake County Jail.
