NEW YORK – On Monday night, posting on his X account, billionaire investor Bill Ackman directly addressed allegations from conservative figures, including Candace Owens, that he attempted to influence Charlie Kirk’s stance on Israel during a Hamptons event last summer. Ackman said he was responding solely on X, noting he did not want to give further attention to Owens but felt compelled to clarify the record.

The controversy centers on an August 4-5, 2024 gathering in Bridgehampton, New York, which was hosted and funded by Ackman and attended by roughly 35 young conservative influencers representing over 100 million combined social media followers. According to Ackman, the event was designed to foster dialogue and provide insights into the perspectives of younger conservatives on a variety of issues, including the economy, cultural trends, foreign policy, and leadership.

Ackman moderated the discussion on the economy but was unable to attend the Israel session due to a board meeting conflict. Attendees reported that the Israel discussion included a wide range of viewpoints, with some participants critical of Israeli policy and others supportive. Ackman emphasized that there was no attempt to coerce or manipulate Kirk’s positions.
“The event was about understanding viewpoints, not directing them,” Ackman wrote on X. He added that Kirk initially reached out to him in May 2024, and a June 11 Zoom call had led to the idea of convening the Hamptons event to explore the interests of young conservatives. Following the event, Kirk identified potential Turning Point USA campus ambassadors, and he and Ackman remained in contact on unrelated topics until Kirk’s passing.
Ackman expressed disappointment at what he described as the exploitation of Kirk’s death to spread “false allegations,” stressing that his intention had always been educational, not political.
