GAZA – Hamas has prepared a draft letter to U.S. President Donald Trump proposing the release of half of the 48 hostages still held in Gaza in exchange for a 60-day ceasefire, Fox News reported Monday.

According to senior Trump administration officials, the letter is currently in Qatar’s possession and could be delivered to Washington this week. Axios correspondent Barak Ravid also confirmed hearing similar reports, but noted that Hamas leaders have not yet signed the document.
The reported move comes as Israeli forces intensify operations in Gaza City, described as one of Hamas’s last remaining strongholds.
Of the 48 hostages believed to remain in captivity, U.S. officials estimate about 20 are still alive. Trump, who has repeatedly demanded the release of all hostages, told reporters over the weekend that “there are 32 dead, maybe more, perhaps 38… most of them are young,” and added that many had died in Hamas tunnels.
“There are probably 20 hostages alive, maybe fewer,” Trump said, while expressing hope for their eventual release. “Maybe they will be freed. In war, strange things happen — things you never thought would occur.”
