NEW YORK CITY — Civil rights attorney Leo Terrell joined Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for a private Shabbat dinner on Friday evening, away from the attention of the United Nations.

The gathering took place just hours after Netanyahu’s UN address defending Israel’s actions in Gaza, which prompted walkouts from some delegates and protests outside UN headquarters.
During the dinner, the discussion reportedly included strengthening U.S.-Israel relations, tackling antisemitism, and efforts to secure the release of hostages held by Hamas. Terrell, who serves as Senior Counsel to the Assistant Attorney General for the Civil Rights Division in the U.S. Department of Justice, said he “cherishes” being recognized as a “guardian of the Jewish people” during the meal.
The dinner highlighted Terrell’s ongoing engagement with Israeli leaders and underscored his role in bridging domestic U.S. policy and international discussions on Israel’s security.
