NEW YORk – Former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo issued a heartfelt apology to the Jewish community for his handling of COVID-19 restrictions, acknowledging past mistakes and seeking forgiveness on Yom Kippur, a day dedicated to reflection and atonement.

In a video speech released to the media on Erev Yom Kippur, Cuomo expressed deep regret for the divisive rhetoric and policies implemented during the pandemic, which disproportionately affected Orthodox Jewish neighborhoods. He stated, “I failed to fully understand the impact of my actions on your communities, and for that, I am truly sorry.” This marks the first time Cuomo has publicly acknowledged that he made a mistake by targeting the community and not being more sensitive.
The apology comes amid Cuomo’s campaign for New York City mayor, following the withdrawal of incumbent Mayor Eric Adams from the race. Cuomo has received endorsements from several Jewish organizations, including Crown Heights United PAC, which praised his commitment to combating rising antisemitism in the city.

T all who think my feelings and oppinions of Mamdani are wrong i challange you with this: Find the international city that isn’t in a Muslim country, has a Muslim MAyor that is Pro torah and pro Judaism. Furthermore, find one that has had Muslim leadership for an extended period of tiem and hasn’t become an unsafe place for Frum Jews? Maybe not day one, but eventual they are clear of their plan.
The only good thing Cuomo did, was to bring in the New York State troopers to Williamsburg a few years ago, when there were assaults against Chassidim. However, I don’t forgive him for punishing Jewish institutions during Covid, or for interfering with large gatherings at Jewish funerals. Jews should not vote for this man, as he has no moral character, and can’t be trusted.

Too little too late. He also missed the point. It isn’t just about disproportionate targeting . It’s also that we have specific needs that he needs to be sensitive too. Our school system is different in many ways. One way is that it’s essential for us to stay open and socially interact . We don’t allow kids on the internet and Torah needs to be taught in person. Another difference is what we teach. For example we can’t teach about lgbtq rights. This and taxed issues could arise again. A third difference is the way so do Bris mila even though it doesn’t abide by official formal health guidelines. Till he realizes that we are different and should have different rules it’s a lost cause. You can’t trust him
