Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz described the vehicle as a “game-changer,” highlighting its potential to enhance community engagement and set a benchmark for modern policing.
Donated by Policing Lab, PUG comes equipped with 360-degree cameras, license plate readers, audio sensors, thermal imaging, and can navigate preprogrammed routes independently. It can assist in areas that are difficult or unsafe for officers and deploy a drone to provide real-time aerial footage during emergencies.
For the first several months, a deputy will ride in the vehicle to gather community feedback before it transitions to full autonomous operation.
Today, the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office made history as we unveiled the nation’s first autonomous patrol vehicle – the PUG Patrol Partner – in partnership with Policing Lab.
