JERUSALEM – In an uncommon public criticism, the Red Cross condemned Hamas after footage showed the group burying a hostage’s remains before bringing in Red Cross teams to witness the retrieval.

The organization said its staff “participated in good faith as a neutral intermediary” and were unaware the body had been placed beforehand.
Describing the staged recovery as “unacceptable,” the Red Cross emphasized that human remains must be treated with dignity, in line with international humanitarian law and forensic standards, and stressed that the return of remains should never be politicized.

But making sure live hostages are treated humanely, not so much.
