NEW YORk – Billionaire investor Bill Ackman appeared to accept defeat Tuesday night and extended an olive branch to Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani, posting a congratulatory message on X following Mamdani’s surprise victory in the New York City mayoral race.

Ackman, who had publicly supported Andrew Cuomo’s independent bid, had been one of Mamdani’s fiercest critics during the campaign, warning that the Democratic Socialist’s policies could harm the city’s economy. His conciliatory tone Tuesday marked a notable shift.
The hedge fund manager’s post quickly drew thousands of reactions, with some praising his graciousness and others accusing him of trying to align himself with the new administration after backing Cuomo’s failed campaign.
Mamdani, who defeated Cuomo and Republican Curtis Sliwa in a historic upset, has not yet responded publicly to Ackman’s outreach.
