NEW YORK – A wave of anger erupted on X Tuesday night following Zohran Mamdani’s stunning win in the New York City mayoral race — with many Democrats and moderates blaming Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa for siphoning votes from Andrew Cuomo, allowing Mamdani to prevail.

Former State Department official Ellie Cohanim was among those voicing outrage on X, writing that she would “never forgive” Sliwa for campaigning against Cuomo instead of focusing his fire on Mamdani. “He knew he was a spoiler and refused to bow out,” Cohanim posted, adding that she “never wants to see his stupid red beret or his face again.”

Dozens of similar posts flooded the platform, accusing Sliwa of splitting the anti-Mamdani vote and “handing the city to the far-left.”
Despite the backlash, Sliwa has not yet responded publicly on X or elsewhere. Mamdani’s victory makes him New York City’s first Muslim and first millennial mayor, marking one of the most dramatic political upsets in recent memory.

I disagree. Sliwa staying in convinced many Cuomo voters it was a foregone conclusion so they didn’t vote. If Sliwa had dropped, Cuomo could have won.

sliwa was wrong to stay in the race when he had absolutely no chance of even coming close. his 10% might have narrowed the gap between cuomo and mamzeri, if he had backed cuomo. it’ll be interesting to see whether he gets any special favours from mamzeri, for his help.

Sliwa has run for mayor in every election for the past 30 years, and loses every time. He needs to put an end to this nonsense and let the Republican Party come up with a candidate who might actually have a chance.
Cuomo should have quit after he lost the primary. He could not overcome his sordid past.
