Why Are Thousands Of Israelis Searching For The IDF Chief Prosecutor’s Phone?

JERUSALEM (VINnews) — Some of the latest dramatic scenes unfolding in Israel could easily serve as the raw materials of a Netflix blockbuster. The last few days have seen a huge prayer vigil dubbed “The cry of the Torah”, with hundreds of thousands expressing their opposition to the IDF’s tossing yeshiva students into jail. Then the very next day the IDF’s chief prosecutor, Major-General Yifat Tomer-Yerushalmi, the person who signed the jail orders for those students, is at first taking a leave of absence, then fired, and then accused of lying to the High Court and being responsible for what the prime minister termed “The biggest PR fiasco in Israel’s history.”

When investigators finally came on Sunday to arrest the prosecutor, she had already disappeared. Her phone was not responding and her worried family called for a search. When Tomer-Yerushalmi’s car was found with engine running and a suicide note, an entire country feared the worst. Yet a short time later Tomer-Yerushalmi was found alive and well, although rather bedraggled from entering the sea in her clothes. The investigators began to realize that they had fallen for a clever diversion. The fake suicide note left in the car had been an elaborate ruse, both to arouse sympathy for the disgraced prosecutor and to enable her to get rid of evidence by destroying her phone or disposing of it in the sea.

The reason Tomer-Yerushalmi was so concerned about the content of her phone becomes clear if we remember that she had a close relationship with the State Attorney-General, Gali Baharav-Miara, who currently refuses to leave her position even after being fired by the government. Baharav-Miara should technically be the one prosecuting and interrogating Tomer-Yerushalmi, but it is also known that Baharav-Miara’s son had stolen a ceramic vest (worth 3000 NIS) from another soldier during his reserve duty and should have been prosecuted by Tomer-Yerushalmi. Yet this never occurred and apparently Tomer-Yerushalmi was also being protected by Baharav-Miara for her own crime of leaking a video to the media which shows soldiers from the Sde Teiman facility allegedly abusing a Palestinian terrorist (and then denying that she leaked it). The video made huge waves worldwide and caused immense damage to Israel’s public image.

Thus the phone may contain incriminating materials both for Tomer-Yerushalmi and her office associates (who were also involved in the cover-up of the leaked video) and for the attorney-general herself, who was privy to the entire plan to leak the video. Tomer-Yerushalmi now claims that she was forced to leak the video to defend herself against furious public attacks for her even opening a case against the soldiers, but she and her staff still lied to the High Court and said they were not involved in the media leak.

The situation, which has huge political and social repercussions, has captured wide public attention as stunned Israelis realize that those who are charged with protecting the law have been flagrantly violating it for personal gain.

Israeli divers search for the Chief Prosecutor’s phone, 11.4.25

On Monday a savvy Israeli businessman offered a 100,000 NIS reward for finding Tomer-Yerushalmi’s phone, and thousands of intrepid Israelis as well as police investigators began searching the Tzuk beach area near Herzliya in an effort to find the phone. On Tuesday even ZAKA volunteers were brought to try and locate the lost phone, while investigators also tried to locate some of its materials in the cloud or on other phones of associates.

As for the case against the soldiers, currently the prosecutor is himself suspended and under investigation for having shared materials with the Chief Prosecutor’s staff in order to leak them to the press. The main witness, the Palestinian terrorist, was conveniently transferred to Gaza during the recent hostage exchange, and therefore cannot even testify against the soldiers. The defense has already submitted a motion to close the case, but the damage has unfortunately been done already.

She obviously destroyed the evidence. No reason to believe her claim that it accidentally fell into the sea. For all we know, the phone was bleached, then smashed with a hammer, then burned.
The only question is how was the Israeli law enforcement criminally negligent with crucial evidence at risk of destruction by a suspect. Name whoever allowed her to keep the phone after she was accused of this high crime. This person or persons should be prosecuted as her coconspirator and accessory after the fact.

Right after the rally an article was written mocking the Haredim, pointing out that every other group has a clear plan and solution that they believe will fix all their problems, while all the Haredim can do is shout shema yisrael and wait to be saved.
Seems like the Chizkiyahu method is still working.

Salt water is pretty corrosive to electronics. Unless it’s a water proof phone its pointless.
