NETHERLANDS – A Jewish woman’s emergency hospital visit in the Netherlands took an unexpected and unsettling turn when a nurse wore a political symbol she says endangered her safety.

In a column for JONET.il, Jewish columnist Jonath Weinberger detailed the incident, describing how the patient arrived at the hospital for urgent care to find a nurse wearing a large pin in the shape of a clenched fist in the colors of the Palestinian flag.

“Let me assure you: as a Zionist Jew with Israeli heritage, you feel very unsafe at a time like this,” the columnist wrote, summarizing the patient’s reaction. The patient, whose Jewish background was apparent, reportedly feared the nurse’s symbol suggested hostility toward her identity.

The situation escalated when the patient expressed her concerns to a paramedic. The nurse reportedly refused to continue care unless the patient was removed, forcing hospital staff to assign a replacement. A second nurse eventually attended to the patient, providing reassurance and support during her procedure.

The column criticized the nurse’s behavior as unprofessional and politically inappropriate in a hospital setting, arguing that healthcare providers are ethically obligated to care for all patients, regardless of religion or political views.

The patient has not yet filed a formal complaint but is reportedly considering action, citing concerns that the nurse’s display of a militant political symbol compromised the safety and neutrality expected in medical care.

“This is not about free expression,” Weinberger wrote. “A hospital is a neutral, safe zone. Patients should never feel at risk because of a caregiver’s political beliefs.”

I think that its better if the haters wear the pin, ots more dangerous if they hate quietly and then Ch’v mistreats the patient..

A “Zionist” nurse would have removed the pin. And you absolutely cannot equate a violent symbol such as a fist in Palestinian colors that is dripping with threat and hatred, to a national flag.

Political statements of any kind do not belong at your job if you’re a nurse, a flight attendant, a firefighter, a barber, or any other job where you’re directly attending to people who are in a vulnerable position. Even tame political statements like “cities should keep their roads paved” or “let’s keep copyright law the way it is.”

The Gemara in Avodah Zara says that an idolatress can’t deliver a Jewish child because they’re suspect of murder. Then the Gemara relates that a gentile midwife bragged about how many Jewish kids she killed on delivery.

How would Mrs Weinberger react, if the patient was a Muslim, and the nurse was wearing an Israeli flag pin, and the patient requested that the nurse remove it because the patient feels threatened?
