WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump issued a public warning to Israel on Thursday, urging it not to take steps that could undermine Syria’s new leadership, days after Israeli troops exchanged fire with gunmen in southern Syria.

Posting on his Truth Social platform, Trump said it was “important for Israel to maintain an open and constructive dialogue with Syria” and avoid moves that could interfere with the country’s political transition.
Trump added he is “very satisfied” with the direction Syria is heading under President Ahmed al-Sharaa, a former opposition figure who met with Trump at the White House in November in a milestone visit.
The U.S. president has been pushing for a security arrangement between Israel and Syria since Sharaa’s Islamist-backed coalition ousted Bashar al-Assad last year. But the situation has remained volatile, with Israeli forces operating in southern Syria against militant activity.
The most serious clash occurred this week, when Israeli troops came under fire during an arrest operation. Six IDF soldiers were wounded, and Syrian outlets reported multiple casualties on the other side.
Trump praised Sharaa’s efforts to stabilize and rebuild Syria, saying the Syrian leader was “working hard to bring positive change” and expressing confidence that Damascus and Jerusalem could ultimately establish a durable relationship.
He also said the United States was committed to supporting Syria’s transition and ensuring its government stays on course with reconstruction plans.
Improved ties between Israel and Syria, Trump noted, would bolster broader U.S. efforts to advance Middle East stability amid a fragile ceasefire in Gaza that has been in place since October.

The issue is that yes i think the man wants a free and democratic syria. But he isn’t strong enough to fend off the next Hezbollah in southern syria. So what happens then?

America has an opportunity to smash Israel’s monopoly on being the only democracy ally US has in the region. Trump might have plans to eventually replace Israel with Syria as America’s main ally there. Same story happened by Obama regarding Iran but that plan failed. Iran didn’t become a democracy. But Trump might be thinking he can do a better job than Obama if he tries with this new supposedly democratic country of Syria he plans to create
