NEW YORK — Several major Jewish organizations in New York City have announced a solidarity gathering for Thursday evening near Park East Synagogue, following an aggressive anti-Zionist protest that targeted the historic Manhattan house of worship late last month.

In their announcement, organizers urged community members to stand together in a show of unity.
“Join us as proud New Yorkers, proud Jews, and proud Zionists as we send a clear and powerful message: We will always defend our community’s values, and we will never waver in our support for Israel’s right to exist as a Jewish homeland,” the groups said.
The event is being organized by the UJA-Federation of New York, the Jewish Community Relations Council of New York, and the New York branches of both the Anti-Defamation League and the American Jewish Committee.
The gathering will take place Thursday at 6 p.m., near the synagogue’s East 67th Street location. It comes as Jewish leaders continue to voice concern over increasingly hostile demonstrations outside synagogues and Jewish institutions across the city.
