MIAMI BEACH, Fla. — Miami Beach officials on Monday paid tribute to billionaire businessman and philanthropist Norman Braman, officially co-naming a key stretch of 17th Street as Norman Braman Way. Braman, who is said to be worth more than $3.5 billion, has long been considered one of the city’s most influential civic figures.

The newly dedicated roadway runs between Washington Avenue and Alton Road beside City Hall — a symbolic placement for a man whose imprint on Miami Beach spans culture, healthcare, and Jewish communal life.
A deeply moved Braman reflected on the honor.
“I have five great-granddaughters who will one day walk past that sign and say, ‘That’s my great-grandfather.’ That means everything to me,” he said. “At 93, soon to be 94, this recognition is incredibly meaningful.”
Mayor Steven Meiner highlighted Braman’s outsized contributions, noting his role in bringing Art Basel to Miami Beach, championing the Holocaust Memorial, and supporting the development of the Braman Comprehensive Cancer Center, opening next year at Mount Sinai Medical Center.

Commissioner Alex J. Fernandez — who spearheaded the co-naming — praised Braman as “one of the rare individuals whose dedication to the public good has transformed an entire region.”
“This street naming is a testament to a lifetime of service,” Fernandez said, “and a reminder of how one person’s commitment can elevate an entire city.”
The tribute cements Braman’s standing as one of Miami Beach’s most impactful and enduring civic leaders.
