TORONTO — A Jewish-Canadian model says she was ordered out of an Uber in the middle of the night after the driver told her she does not drive Jewish passengers, prompting calls for stronger action from Uber and Jewish advocacy groups.

Miriam Mattova, 33, said she was heading home after midnight on Nov. 30 when the driver abruptly stopped the vehicle moments after overhearing Mattova mention her recent trip to Israel during a FaceTime call. According to Mattova, the driver told her she felt “uncomfortable” and then stated she would not transport Jewish riders, leaving Mattova to exit the car on a busy street.

Mattova described the experience as frightening and degrading, saying it immediately reminded her of the antisemitism her grandmother endured in Europe before the Holocaust. She later booked another Uber to get home safely.

Mattova and a friend reported the incident to Uber that night. She said the company contacted her four days later with a refund and an apology but did not confirm whether the driver was suspended or removed from the platform.

In a statement, Uber Canada said discrimination is prohibited and that it is reviewing the complaint, adding that the company has been in contact with the rider. It declined to answer questions about disciplinary measures.

Toronto police said no criminal report was filed.

Jewish organizations, including B’nai Brith Canada, urged Uber to be more transparent about how it handles hate-related incidents and to release statistics on such complaints, citing what they describe as a sharp rise in antisemitic harassment since Oct. 7.

Mattova — a former Miss Slovakia who moved to Toronto in 2023 — has been outspoken about Israel and Jewish identity on social media. She said she has already faced professional fallout for her views, including losing followers and being dropped by a PR firm.

“This wasn’t just an unpleasant ride,” she said. “It was antisemitism, plain and simple. If we don’t confront moments like this, they only become more common.”

The case adds to a growing number of reports of Jewish riders being denied service or harassed in North America and Europe amid ongoing tensions.

The West has been thoroughly third-worlded. There is no place but Eretz Yisroel left for us.
Europe and Canada are beyond repair at this point in time. The US is 10 years behind Europe.
The Western civilization is going to be extinct within the next fifty years.

Ms. Mattova is very brave in speaking out against the increasing anti-semitism in Canada. The photo with her Holocaust survivor grandmother is beautiful.

Jews and non-jews ought to flood Uber with ride calls, go halfway on a jounery then announce “i am jewish.” And collect a full refund. Do this thousands of times and Uber will either go broke or fire people.

There are lots of Muslims that drive for Uber. All those former yellow cab drivers in NYC from Pakistan, every other stan, Somalia Egypt etc etc all transferred to Uber. My son was in an out of town in yeshiva during the war and when he needed to get around town or to the airport and we ordered an Uber for him, many names of the drivers that responded were named Muhammad, Ahmed, Ibrahim etc. At least two times when they pulled up and saw Yeshiva boys, they just drove off and left them there. Ym’s.

Why did she exit the car? She should have taken out her phone and told the driver she is calling the police to report a hate crime, and then called.

Has Uber or Uber Canada done anything about this situation? If not then there needs to be an UBER boycott unfortunately $$ are the only thing that these companies see or understand, If it is going to hurt their bottom line they will correct it otherwise they will do nothing!

Jews should have their cameras rolling when getting an Uber ride. If anything antisemitic happens, simply upload that part to your local representative and maybe to your social media accounts.

Riders experiencing antisemitism on transportation services like UBER should strongly sue for ⚖️ Horrendous Impactful Emotional Generational Stress and also, False Representation of Services under Various Constitutional Laws.⚖️ In the case in Toronto, a Jewish Organization Should help a $10 Million Lawsuit requiring Jury Trial and willing to Settle out of court for $5 M Successfully‼️⚖️
