The move coincides with preparations for a free trade agreement between the two countries, which is expected to be signed this week. Israel’s Economy Minister Nir Barkat and Tovar are scheduled to attend the signing ceremony.

Sa’ar said the new office will strengthen cooperation in technology, trade and investment, calling it an important step in expanding bilateral ties. He also thanked Costa Rica for adopting the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance definition of antisemitism and praised President Rodrigo Chávez Robles for supporting Israel.
