Breslavski recounted with pain and courage the horrors he endured during his captivity, beginning with a harrowing description of October 7th. “When I was kidnapped, I saw the atrocities with my own eyes. I saw the massacre. I saw young, beautiful women lying on the ground, riddled with bullets. Blood covered the entire area. I saw inside a large yellow dumpster a pile of bodies — women, elderly people, and small children — covered in blood. They were murdered and slaughtered simply for being Israelis and Jews.”

He then spoke about the mental and physical abuse he experienced in captivity: “The Islamic Jihad murdered me mentally and physically every single day. My life was destroyed.” He described the complex rehabilitative process he is undergoing, noting that some other survivors he knows have lost the ability to function normally after being released. “I know hostages who returned and can no longer communicate, who have lost their minds. This captivity is unfit for any living beings, certainly not for human beings.”

He concluded his remarks with a message of hope: “Two months ago I was still inside Gaza, 40 meters underground, wearing torn clothes, after not showering for at least a month and not eating for an entire day. And today, look at the suit I’m wearing. The wheel has turned, and only thanks to the miracles G-d performed for me.”

distinctions. why is it an act of god that made him free, but not an act of god that made him captive (and all the atrocities to him and worse to others)?
