JERUSALEM (VINnews) — Worrying scenes have emerged from a Syrian military parade marking a year since the toppling of the Assad regime. The chants raised by soldiers,—“Gaza, oh Gaza,” “We’re coming for you, oh enemy, we’re coming,” and “Khaybar, Khaybar, oh Jews, Muhammad’s army will return”—during a parade in southern Syria in Deraa, have received extensive and ongoing coverage in the Israeli media, and also from Israeli security and political agencies.

In Israel, steps are expected to be taken. Among other things, strong messages will be conveyed to the Syrian regime on the matter, and a demand for condemnation of such documentation of its soldiers.

Security officials tell us: “We work with the Syrian regime according to a ‘distrust and suspect’ approach—we view them with complete suspicion. The nature of the regime is extreme jihadist, and we do not gloss over that in our view of them.”
