The assault happened Thursday on the store’s seventh floor, where the 38-year-old tourist had stepped inside with her infant before being stabbed in the back, shoulder and arm. Officers said she managed to shield her child as the attack unfolded.

Police arrested 43-year-old Kerri Aherne, who is homeless, and charged her with attempted murder, assault and criminal possession of a weapon. Aherne is originally from Massachusetts, according to investigators.

The victim, who was in New York with her husband and baby, was taken to Bellevue Hospital and remained in stable condition. Authorities said she works in a civilian role for a California sheriff’s office, where her husband also serves as a sheriff.

Macy’s said in a statement that it was saddened by the incident and that customer safety is a priority at the store.

When you see an obsolete piece of farming equipment within 50 feet distance, be prepared to fight or flight, depending on circumstances.

I’m not even sure that we could blame Macy’s for this. What are they supposed to do, interrogate every single customer/person that walks in their door? 99% of the Time all is good (except for the typical shoplifting). Who could plan for that 1% rarity? Have a bathroom attendant for that freak incident that could happen? No. That being said, at least it’s not California where we were at a few months ago and were at a chain pharmacy and my wife needed to use the restroom which is locked. The woman manager has the key so she opened it. While my wife was in there, that same idiot manager unlocks the door to let in a #1 male. Not a normal state, not a normal business. How could lawsuits not take place when things happen? They deserve every bit of a major lawsuit.

Where is Chirlane McCray and her billion dollar psych program? This is outrageous. She promised help for these people with mental illness.

Not all homeless people are violent.
I don’t think that has to be mentioned
