SYDNEY — Rabbi Yaakov Levitan, a Chabad community administrator who served as secretary of the Sydney Rabbinical Court, has died from wounds sustained in the terrorist shooting at a Hanukkah celebration in Sydney, community officials said.

Levitan, who worked in an administrative capacity for the Rabbinical Court, was injured when gunmen opened fire during the Chanukah gathering and had been hospitalized in critical condition. He later succumbed to his injuries.
Community leaders described Levitan as a dedicated worker who supported rabbinical and communal functions and was deeply involved in Jewish life in Sydney.
Authorities have classified the shooting as a terrorist attack and said the investigation remains ongoing as officials continue to assess the full impact of the attack.
