Just 28% of Americans said they approve of the job Schumer is doing, placing him last among 13 senior political figures measured in the poll. The New York Democrat’s standing has deteriorated sharply within his own party, with only 39% of Democrats expressing approval — down from 76% two years ago.
Gallup noted that Democratic dissatisfaction with Schumer now outweighs support, with 56% of Democrats saying they disapprove of his performance. The slide comes as progressive lawmakers and activists have intensified calls for Schumer to step aside, criticizing his leadership during negotiations with President Donald Trump and Republicans amid a prolonged government shutdown.
Trump’s own approval rating stood at 36%, higher than Schumer’s, with deep partisan divides driving the numbers. Nearly nine in 10 Republicans approved of Trump’s performance, while Democratic support was negligible.
Vice President JD Vance registered a 39% approval rating, also marked by stark polarization, with strong backing from Republicans and minimal support from Democrats.
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, another New York Democrat, fared slightly better than Schumer, earning approval from 37% of Americans. Jeffries benefited from stronger support within his party, with nearly two-thirds of Democrats approving of his leadership.
Overall, Americans expressed broad dissatisfaction with political leadership and the direction of the country. Only 17% approved of Congress as a whole, and fewer than one-quarter said they were satisfied with where the nation is headed as it approaches the midterm election cycle.
Economic concerns dominated responses, with large majorities citing rising costs and worsening conditions. Nearly seven in 10 respondents said the economy is getting worse, according to Gallup.
The poll surveyed 1,106 adults nationwide from Dec. 1 to Dec. 15 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points.
A spokesperson for Schumer dismissed the results, saying Democrats remain focused on lowering costs and protecting health care access, priorities the senator continues to champion.

No one respects or trusts a person who will turn on his own people for political expediency. People understand that if he can do that to his own, he will for sure do it to them.
He can’t even make a proper cheeseburger
He burnt his bridges on both sides and the middle never liked him
But hey don’t worry Williamsburg Monroe and the aguda self appointed big shots will still back him. Just like your new mayor
i recall meeting him with my zayda an at Agudas yisroel convention. he was well received
Headline should be Trump’s approval at 36%. 36% !!!
