TORONTO — Mezuzahs, Jewish prayer scrolls traditionally affixed to doorways, were removed from several condominium units in Toronto on Thursday, marking the second such incident reported in the city this month, according to CTV Canadian News.

Police said officers responded shortly before 12:30 p.m. to a report that three mezuzahs had been taken from the entrances of three condo units in the North York area. The Toronto Police Service said its hate crime unit has been notified and is investigating.
Authorities said the building is located near Finch Avenue East and Bayview Avenue, though the exact address was not released.

Local councillor James Pasternak said the incident occurred at a seniors’ residence that is home to many Jewish residents, including Holocaust survivors. He described the removals as disturbing and said the mezuzahs appeared to have been forcibly taken from the doorways.
Pasternak noted that a similar incident was reported in the area earlier this month and said police are treating the latest case as a potential hate-motivated offense.
Community members have expressed concern about the impact of the incidents, particularly on elderly residents, Pasternak said, calling for clear condemnation and accountability.
Police said the investigation is ongoing and urged anyone with information to contact authorities.
