New South Wales police said the 36-year-old man was reported to authorities after beachgoers noticed tattoos on his legs that included Nazi SS symbols and white supremacist slogans. Images of the tattoos were photographed and later circulated on social media.
Officers arrested the man later that day at his home near Coffs Harbour and took him to a local police station, authorities said.
Under New South Wales law, the public display of Nazi symbols is a criminal offense, carrying potential jail time and fines. Police said the man was charged with knowingly displaying a prohibited symbol in a public place.
The suspect was granted conditional bail and is scheduled to appear in court next month. Authorities said the investigation remains ongoing.
