WASHINGTON D.C (VINnews)— Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi expressed strong confidence Sunday that Democrats will regain control of the U.S. House of Representatives in the 2026 midterm elections, paving the way for House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries to wield the speaker’s gavel.

In an interview with ABC News’ Jonathan Karl on “This Week,” the California Democrat praised Jeffries as the ideal leader for the role.
“Hakeem Jeffries is ready, he’s eloquent, he’s respected by the members, he is a unifier,” Pelosi said.
When Karl asked if she had any doubt that Jeffries would become speaker, Pelosi replied, “None.”
Pelosi, who served as the first female House speaker and stepped down from Democratic leadership in 2022, announced last month that she will not seek reelection in 2026, ending her nearly four-decade congressional career after the current term.
With Republicans holding a narrow majority in the House — approximately 220 seats to Democrats’ 215, according to recent tallies — Pelosi said her remaining time in office will focus on electoral efforts.
“I’m busy, and focused on winning the House for the Democrats, making Hakeem Jeffries the Speaker of the House, and to take us to a better place,” she said.
The interview, conducted Dec. 18 and aired Dec. 28, also touched on Pelosi’s reflections on her career and past events, including the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol attack.

As disasters go this will be 1A to Pelosi’s reign.
Probably I suppose, the Senate will stay in Republican hands.
That will be great for this country. We need to keep Trump in check
