Fallen Soldier’s Helmet Incorporated Into Torah Scroll Crown at Memorial Ceremony

RAANANA, Israel — A new Torah scroll was dedicated Monday in the central Israeli city of Raanana in memory of Dan Wajdenbaum, an Israel Defense Forces reservist who was killed in combat in the Gaza Strip two years ago.

The dedication began at the soldier’s family home, where relatives and close friends completed the final letters of the handwritten scroll, a traditional step marking the conclusion of its writing. Participants then escorted the Torah in a procession through the neighborhood before bringing it to its permanent location.

The scroll was fitted with a custom silver crown designed by Israeli artist Tzion Hadad, which incorporates Wajdenbaum’s combat helmet. The helmet is enclosed within the crown and surrounded by decorative Stars of David bearing his name, a design meant to symbolize remembrance and protection.

The procession concluded at the Ahai v’Re’ai community at the Dekel School, where prayers were recited, including the Shema, followed by remarks and an evening prayer service.

A communal meal followed as part of a broader series of events commemorating Wajdenbaum’s life and military service.
