MINNEAPOLIS — A man was tackled and restrained after spraying U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar with an unknown substance during a town hall meeting Tuesday night in north Minneapolis, authorities said.

Omar, a Democrat from Minnesota, was speaking to constituents when the man, wearing a black jacket, approached and sprayed the substance in her direction. Attendees quickly tackled and removed him from the venue.
Omar was not visibly injured and continued the town hall after the incident. Police and event officials did not immediately release additional details about the suspect or the substance used.
The attack comes amid heightened political tensions nationally, authorities said.
