NEW YORK — A powerful winter storm known as a bomb cyclone is expected to hit New York City Saturday night and continue into Sunday, forecasters said, bringing additional snow and dangerously low temperatures.

The storm could drop up to 3 inches of snow in areas still recovering from over a foot of snow earlier in the week. Strong winds combined with temperatures in the low teens to mid-20s could create wind chills at or below zero.

Meteorologists said the storm will likely produce blustery conditions throughout the city, with areas east of New York, including Long Island, facing the heaviest snowfall — potentially up to 6 inches — and whiteout conditions in some locations.

The storm is expected to move out by Sunday night, and only minor flurries are predicted for the following week. Officials urged residents to remain cautious on slippery roads and dress warmly amid the frigid conditions.

Saw a polar bear outside my house. Said he got lost. After much determination I was able to find him lodgings. But my task was not finished. I was able to find a local playground where the polar bear and I enjoyed some delicious chow chow. In the morning, I accompanied him on his journey to his native land. He thanked me as we bid leave each other.

Not a “hydrogen bomb mass killing weather machine”? How much crazier can weather people get?

Every 10 years or so, New York gets a whopper of a blizzard. In 1978, it had several interspersed with quick thaws and freezes leaving the trees glistening from the street lights ( I have a series of photos of this).
It didn’t thaw out until march when it rained all month.
This is no worse. Actually, it’s a cyclical average. Yet everyone is panicking.

Must be a slow news day.

I predict the storm will come more inland and drop 8-12″ inches with blizzard conditions.

Everyone has such short memories. The past few years have been mild winters, but before that they were much worse than what we see now. In 2016 NY got more than 24″ of snow. In most years the temperatures fall below freezing for weeks at a time. This is nothing new. Another 3 inches on Sunday will not affect much more than what we have now.
