Mamdani, AOC, and Omar React Against President Trump

New York (VINnews/Rabbi Yair Hoffman) – President Trump’s decisive military action against Iran’s nuclear infrastructure this weekend represents one of the most consequential moves for human liberty in a generation — a strike not only for American security, but for the tens of millions of Iranians who have suffered under the boot of a theocratic regime for over four decades.

And yet, predictably, a small but vocal contingent of American politicians rushed to microphones not to stand with the Iranian people, but to defend, by implication, the regime that oppresses them.

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani called the strikes “a catastrophic escalation in an illegal war of aggression.” Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez branded them “unlawful” and “unnecessary.” Rep. Ilhan Omar accused the president of dragging the nation into “an illegal and unjustified war.”

One struggles to find in any of their statements a single word of sympathy for the millions of Iranians living under tyranny, for the women of the Mahsa Amini movement, for the students shot in the streets of Iranian cities, or for the countless victims of Iranian-backed terror across the Middle East. Their outrage, it seems, is reserved exclusively for the American president who acted — never for the regime that made action necessary.

This reflexive opposition to the use of American power in defense of freedom is not new. It is, in fact, a posture with a long and ignoble pedigree. Had Mamdani, Ocasio-Cortez, and Omar been serving in office in 1941, one shudders to imagine the press conferences. They would have accused Franklin Roosevelt and Winston Churchill of “dragging” their nations into “an illegal war of aggression” against Germany. They would have demanded congressional hearings while the Wehrmacht rolled across Europe. They would have called D-Day an “unnecessary escalation” and insisted that diplomacy with Hitler had not yet been exhausted.

The comparison is not as far-fetched as it may sound. Iran’s regime has openly called for the annihilation of Israel — a nation of nearly ten million souls. It has pursued nuclear weapons with which to make good on that promise. It has armed and directed proxy armies responsible for the deaths of hundreds of thousands across Syria, Yemen, Lebanon, and Iraq. At what point does a regime’s record of aggression, mass murder, and genocidal ambition justify action? For some politicians, apparently, the answer is never.

History remembers Neville Chamberlain’s “peace in our time” not as wisdom but as catastrophic naivete. History remembers Churchill’s resolve — mocked and opposed by the isolationists and appeasers of his day — as the force that saved civilization. The leaders who stand against tyranny are never popular with everyone in the moment. Their vindication comes later, written in the freedom of those they helped to liberate.

President Trump’s strike against Iran is a strike for the Muslim world — for the Sunni Arab nations that have lived in the shadow of Iranian aggression, for the people of Lebanon held hostage by Hezbollah, for the Yemenis starved by Houthi brutality, and above all, for the Iranian people themselves, who deserve to live in a free and modern nation worthy of Persia’s ancient and magnificent heritage.

The free world has been put on notice: America will not stand idle while a terror regime races toward nuclear capability. That is true leadership, and history, as it always does, will judge accordingly.
