Police said officers were responding to a burglary call in the 6200 block of Park Heights Avenue when a gunman opened fire. One officer was shot in the leg and transported to the University of Maryland R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center, where officials said the officer was in stable condition.
According to Richard Worley, the commissioner of the Baltimore Police Department, the suspect was shot and killed by another officer during the confrontation.
“It was relatively quick because he was firing on our officers,” Worley said.
Authorities said the situation involved a tense standoff in which a woman jumped out of a window to escape and another woman was briefly held at gunpoint before the suspect was fatally shot. Police said the man was related to people inside the home.
Nearby Jewish institutions, including the Bnos Yisroel school, went into lockdown as a precaution amid the large police response. Other community facilities in the area also temporarily restricted movement until authorities declared the scene secure.
School officials later notified parents that the lockdown had been lifted after police cleared the area, thanking responding officers for their swift response.
Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott said the wounded officer was receiving medical care and expressed relief that the situation did not result in more serious injuries.
“We’re just so thankful that the officer or any other folks in that neighborhood were not severely harmed,” Scott said.
The name of the suspect and the officers involved had not been released as of Tuesday. The Baltimore Fraternal Order of Police said the officers involved were in good spirits following the incident.
Authorities said the investigation is ongoing.

A fine Tuesday in Baltimore city.
Happening now, Sheldon Stern, a POS dentist in Manhattan (212 call 254 anytime 2225) was writing trash about Chabad and others on VIN. A group of Satmar guys that admire Chabad put together an IT team to go behind his user names and expose him to a legal team that is launching a $30M lawsuit for slander and defamation. We also accessed his accounts, passwords, emails etc. This is so entertaining! Follow the story as it develops! Kulam b’yachad, V’nomar checkmate.
