NEW YORK (VINnews) — The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that four of the six crew members who were aboard the U.S. refueling aircraft that crashed in Iraq have been confirmed dead. According to CENTCOM, rescue efforts for the remaining crew members are ongoing.

It was also stated that the circumstances of the incident are under investigation, but stressed that the crash was not caused by hostile fire or friendly fire. Iraqi pro-Iran militia had previously claimed that they were responsible for the shooting down of the KC-135 refueler.
Three other f-15 aircraft were downed earlier in the war by Kuwaiti air defenses but the pilots all managed to bail out safely.
