NEW YORK (VINnews) — A New York Police Department helicopter crew rescued a man from a vessel off the coast of New York City after he suffered a medical emergency at sea, officials said.

The incident took place early Thursday in the Ambrose Channel, a heavily trafficked waterway between Sandy Hook and Breezy Point.
Authorities said the NYPD’s Aviation Unit landed a helicopter directly on the ship to evacuate the 43-year-old man, who was experiencing a medical episode. Crew members placed him on a stretcher before he was flown to Nassau University Medical Center.
He was reported to be in stable condition.
The rescue was carried out after a request from the United States Coast Guard, which assisted in coordinating the response.
Officials said the operation highlights the aviation unit’s role in conducting emergency rescues and medical evacuations in and around New York City’s waterways, one of the busiest maritime regions in the country.
