The missile carried a cluster bomb warhead, spreading small bombs over a wide area. One of these small bombs killed a 52-year-old security guard who was not in a bomb shelter at the time.
The victim was named as Vyacheslav Vidmant. Vidmant was employed by the Tel Aviv municipality to secure residential buildings that had been evacuated in the same location after a deadly Iranian attack on the first day of the war killed 32-year-old Mary Anne Velasquez de Vera, a Filipina carer for an elderly woman.
Vidmant, who, according to the Home Front Command, was the only person in the area not in a bomb shelter at the time of the impact, was hit by shrapnel, reportedly some 20 meters from where the submunition hit.
In a separate incident on Shabbat afternoon in the village of Eshtaol in the Shefela region, several people were lightly injured after an Iranian ballistic missile struck the village.
According to first responders, some 19 people were taken in for treatment after being injured by shrapnel and broken glass as a result of the explosion and several more were treated for shock.
The missile, which was assessed to carry a warhead of several hundred kilograms of explosives, caused extensive damage to nearby homes and dozens of vehicles, as it landed near a large parking lot.
Hezbollah also continued its incessant attacks on the northern region on Shabbat, while Israel responded by targeting a senior journalist who the IDF claimed had assisted Hezbollah by revealing IDF troop locations in southern Lebanon.
