JERUSALEM (VINnews) — Tamar Haberfeld, 12, from Haifa is the Israeli who was killed overnight when a bus rolled down a slope at a ski resort in the Savoie department in the French Alps.

Tamar was on a trip with her father and her twin sister Hadas, who was also injured. Their mother Shirel remained in Haifa. She told Ynet in anguish that her daughter Hadas did not initially understand what happened: “Now she knows her sister is in heaven. That’s how she wrote it to me.”
13 other people were lightly injured in the incident. The accident occurred as Tamar and her family members were traveling to the airport at the end of a trip organized to celebrate her bat mitzvah. According to initial reports, the bus began rolling backward on a slope after the driver exited the vehicle to check a suspected technical issue and failed to engage the handbrake. The bus rolled backward, fell about ten meters and overturned.
Tamar, who was seated near a window, became trapped beneath the vehicle. Despite attempts by her father and other passengers to rescue her, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
