Jewish Comedian Modi Withdraws From NYC Passover Event Over Mayor’s Participation

NEW YORK (VINnews) — Jewish comedian Mordechai Rosenfeld, known professionally as Modi, said Monday he will not attend an annual Passover-themed event in Lower Manhattan after learning that New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani is scheduled to participate.

The “Downtown Seder,” a benefit tied to a nonprofit focused on peacebuilding, is set to take place Monday evening. Israeli musician David Broza is also expected to appear.

In a statement posted on Instagram, Modi’s representatives said they were unaware of the mayor’s involvement until Monday. “We were not aware Mamdani was participating until today. Modi will not be attending this evening,” the statement read.

Mamdani has drawn criticism from some Jewish groups over policy decisions and positions related to Israel. On his first day in office, he rescinded several executive orders issued by his predecessor, including one adopting the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance’s working definition of antisemitism and another restricting city officials from engaging in boycotts or divestment targeting Israel.

The mayor has also faced scrutiny in recent weeks over additional controversies connected to Israel and antisemitism.

The Downtown Seder’s organizers did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

He’s a gay man legally married to a raised Catholic man. I’m not interested in this person or his leitzanus. I don’t understand how Orthodox audiences would attend his shows.

Great decision. Treat the mayor for what he and his wife are.

Why would Modi join an event that mocks Judaism in the first place?

Whether you agree with them or not, they are Askanim and have to work with this decrepit mayor and his staff: they’re in a tough position! This guy is a private citizen! I’m sure in his private life Moshe Indig from Satmar despises this guy just the same as we do. As an Askan, he’s stuck.

“…a nonprofit focused on peacebuilding…” Yeah, another fake nonprofit that takes government money and makes it disappear.

The ‘Downtown Seder’ is a far left liberal event. No Jew with any sense of decency should attend. Look at the guests of honor at this event (on their website): Don Lemon, George Floyd’s brother, and a who’s who of radical self-hating anti-Israel Jews and others who hate us. Mamdani fits in perfectly with this list.

To everyone heartlessly criticizing Modi for his sexual practices, I direct you to Pirke Avot. “Do not judge your fellow until you have reached his place” (Pirkei Avot 2:4).
I am sure that all the phony frum people on this site will give a reason why this not apply here……but too bad. I will take Pirke Avot over frum phonies any day.

As a “Frum” Yid, I am extremely appalled and deeply disappointed to see fellow “frum” Yidden expressing JUDGEMENT against another child of Hashem!!!

Why bring up anything negetive about someone in the first place, ESPECIALLY since it was not at all germane to the story at all!
