Police said the driver was fined for allegedly failing to maintain full control of the vehicle, arguing that the religious items may have interfered with safe driving.
The case has drawn criticism from legal experts who question the legal basis for the citation.
Attorney Eilon Oron, a traffic law specialist, said that if the tefillin were already properly worn and did not obstruct visibility or movement, the fine appears difficult to justify under reckless or careless driving standards.
He also raised comparisons to other cases involving costumes or religious attire, arguing that enforcement typically depends on whether driving control is actually impaired.
Traffic regulations in such cases generally require drivers to maintain full control of the vehicle at all times.
The incident has sparked discussion online, with some users expressing support for the driver and offering to help cover the fine. Police have not commented further on the case.

The cop probably forgot his ADHD meds in the morning.
Are they going to fine arab drivers for adjusting their kefia’s while driving?
Only in the sunny little Israel on the Mediterranean.
No surprise on the so called Jewish left lowlife haters. Thay hate us more then other gentiles.
what is the difference btween tephilin and a baseball cap on the head? or bandages on the wrist??
I’m giving him a fine for being Masiach-Daas while wearing tefillin…
…if he tell me he wasn’t, only then I’d fine him impaired driving 😉
It’s a shame that eretz YIsrael is only a state of Jews but not a Jewish state perhaps if citizens of a country with a draft for Jews only didnt find a way out of the draft perhaps then the country would be a Jewish state and the anti religious would complain that the army is making people religious?
Participation is necessary for repentance imagine if the police supervisor was religious (charaidie)
What do you expect from this Zionist government
Yes why in hell is someone praying while driving?! It is not only reckless, it is disgraceful
Wearing a tallit and tefillin can most definitely impair one’s driving, especially when driving on the highway at higher speeds. At those speeds, all you need is a split second “hesech hada’at” and you can cause an accident.
I think the driver is a חצוף. He should admit his mistake and pay the fine. But drivers never admit their mistakes. Ever see someone driving in the shoulder backwards because he missed the off ramp?
