NEW YORK (AP) — A Brooklyn woman has filed a lawsuit against the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles, alleging she was forced to remove her religious head covering for a driver’s license photo in violation of her beliefs, according to a report by the New York Post.

Sara Fellig, an ultra-Orthodox Jewish mother, said employees at a Brooklyn DMV office required her to take off her head covering despite state rules allowing religious exemptions, the report said.
In court filings, Fellig described the experience as humiliating and said she felt pressured to comply while surrounded by dozens of people. She is seeking damages and a replacement license photo.
New York regulations generally prohibit items that obscure the face in identification photos, but allow exceptions for individuals with sincerely held religious beliefs, according to the report.
Fellig’s attorney said the rules were not properly applied in her case. The lawsuit also cites prior incidents of antisemitic harassment the woman experienced, which she said contributed to her distress.
The DMV has not publicly responded to the allegations.

What happened to saying “H–L NO”?
I’ve had this at airport security and blatantly refuse. There’s nothing they can do about it.
I don’t see them telling muslims to take off their hijabs… They wouldn’t dare do that.
It’s time to stand up and refuse these stupid demands.
Clark v City of New York,
No. 18 Civ. 02334
The above cited case relates to a lawsuit against the City of New York where the department of corrections forced Muslims and Jews to remove their head covering for a picture upon being arrested. Nyc had to compensate each person.
You mean to say that a frum lady took off her tichel or shaitel for the picture? I really don’t think that happened. Who would do that? If it was suggested any from woman would have left and not done it. Something is off here
Does Ilhan Omar have to remove the diaper from her bald head when she goes to any of those places?
what do they do with a moslem woman wearing a niqab, call cair?
Once when I was in New York Airport
Security asked me to remove my tichel.
I told him to have that Arab lady ahead of me remove her hijab first.
No way am I taking off my tichel!!!
In the end she’ll be happier it happened than if it didn’t
If she was wearing a shaitel… Like frum women are supposed to….They would not know to ask her to remove it.
Must be she was wearing a tichel….
A tichel is meant for in the house.
A shaitel is meant for going out.
If she’s driving why does she need a head covering? שאנדע
