According to reports, the charedi woman, who was in her eighth month of pregnancy, began experiencing labor pains while aboard the flight. The crew, together with the pilot, decided to divert the aircraft to Leonardo da Vinci–Fiumicino Airport in Italy.

An ambulance transported the woman to a nearby hospital in Ostia, where she gave birth to a baby girl several hours later.

A Chabad chassid who was among the passengers contacted Rabbi Shalom Ber Chazan, the Chabad emissary in Rome, and informed him of the situation.

Shortly afterward, Rabbi Chazan’s wife, Mrs. Chani Chazan, traveled from Rome to Ostia to visit the new mother, bringing her strictly kosher food and remaining with her at the hospital to offer assistance and support.

Beautiful. Nearly 2000 years after the Churban, the Roman empire has long since been relegated to the dustbin of history, and Yiddishe Kinder are being born in Rome. A powerful chizuk at a time when the Haters of Klal Yisroel seem to be regaining strength.

ElAl and other airlines require a doctor’s letter stating that it is safe for the to fly. Further, the letter must state that the pregnant woman is not in her ninth month: that gives at least 4 weeks till her expected due date. This woman was in her eighth month and was deemed as safe to fly. The air pressure may have just put her into early and unexpected labor! She certainly did not wish to give birth in Rome!

I am also wondering why a woman in her eighth month is allowed to fly. Glad to hear everything worked out well for her. Hope the other passengers got to their destination in time for their scheduled meetings or other events

Mazel Tov! Way better news than diverting a plane for a passenger that took ill.

Glad mom & baby are ok.

Shouldn’t be flying international in the eight month. More so if it’s the second pregnancy.
