POMONA, N.Y. (VINnews) — An 8-year-old girl was killed Tuesday evening after being struck by a vehicle while riding her bicycle on Ravenna Drive in Pomona, authorities and emergency responders said.

The child, identified as Charlotte Herzberg, was found in critical condition when emergency crews arrived. Members of Hatzoloh, along with Spring Hill EMS and Rockland Paramedics, performed extensive lifesaving measures at the scene before transporting her to a local hospital.
My heart goes out to the family of 8-year-old Shaindel Herzberg and the entire Pomona community following this heartbreaking tragedy. May the Herzberg family know no further sorrow and be comforted among the mourners of Zion and Jerusalem.

Despite continued resuscitation efforts, the girl was later pronounced dead.
Charlotte was the granddaughter of Sandy Eller, a longtime freelance writer for VINnews.
The Ramapo Police Department is investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
The incident prompted an outpouring of grief throughout the Rockland County Jewish community as residents mourned the loss of the young girl.
While this is horrifying, the amazing thing is that it does not happen more often. I have seen the Monsey are rapidly degenerate into the wild west. I do not know who was at fault here and it really doesn’t matter; a young child was lost. So, I’m begging all of you:
Drivers: please stop driving like maniacs. You know who you are. Some of you just cant wait for a light, you have to cut everyone off; if you’re coming out of a lot and it says “no left turn”, it means exactly that.
Parents: Teach your kids proper safety on bikes, ebikes, scooters, roller skates, etc.
Teens: You guys ride those things like maniacs. Just go to monsey scoop and you will see countless videos of these guys ALMOST getting killed. Weaving in and out of traffic.
And lastly – to EVERY driver out there, and again, you know who you are. STOP TEXTING BEHIND THE WHEEL!! you are an accident waiting to happen.

I am not familiar with the area, but the map shows this to be a quiet cul-de-sac street. Kids play on this kind of streets all the time. On such a street, cars should not be going faster than 15 mph. If this driver was going faster than that on this street, in some communities some people would catch the degenerate and break his or her legs. The government is only good for taxing, not for keeping the society safe.

Too many children are lost due to traffic encounters that could be avoided. At times, the driver is at fault, at times the child is at fault.
The facts are not clear. Was the victim driving in the street and the driver did not see her? Did the victim dive into moving traffic? Was the victim wearing a proper safety helmet? What happened? If an article like this is posted, post clear details so people do not jump to the wrong con conclusions.
MOST IMPORTANT; WE NEED TO EDUCAATE OUR CHILDREN AND GRANCHILDREN AND CONTINUOUSLY REINFOCE THE RULES ABOUT SAFETY WHEN RIDING IN THE STREET. WE NEED TO TELL THE VEHICLE DRIVERS TO DRIVER MORE CAUTIOUSLLY, AND SLOW AND BE ON THE LOOK OUT FOR PEDESTRIANS AND CHILDREN ON SCOOTERS OR BICYLES.

An expensive fancy shmancy Hummer/armored vehicle, without being able to see a child right in front of you in an area with lots of active children B’H, have no place in such a community. If it is equipped with it, what happened?
