2 Soldiers Fall In Southern Lebanon, 18 Killed Since Ceasefire Was Broken

JERUSALEM (VINnews) — BDE: Sergeant Ehud (Ohad) Yaari, a 21-year-old Givati Brigade soldier, was killed on Friday in Lebanon. His levaya will take place on Sunday, at 12:00 p.m. at the military cemetery in Rehovot.

Ehud was the nephew of Yehoshua Sherman, the father of Yehuda Shmuel Sherman, who was murdered in a terrorist attack in northern Samaria about two months ago. . He is survived by his parents, Naama and David, and three siblings.

The Rehovot Municipality stated:

“Dear Yaari family, together with all the residents of Rehovot, we embrace you in your most difficult hour, share in your deep sorrow, and extend our heartfelt condolences. The public is invited to come with Israeli flags and pay their final respects along the road leading to the cemetery, at the intersection of Menachem Begin and Gorodisky streets. May his memory be blessed.”

A statement from residents of Yad Binyamin said:

“We share in the deep grief of the Sherman family of Yad Binyamin and embrace Yaakov and Tirza upon receiving the painful news of the death this morning in Lebanon of their grandson, Ehud Yaari, of blessed memory, a fighter in the Givati Brigade. Our sincere condolences to Itamar and Tzofi Sherman, to Gideon and Ronit Sherman, and to the entire family.”

Rabbi Shai Hod, a teacher at Ma’alot Yeshiva, told Channel 7:

“Ehud had a truly special charm. He was especially beloved. He possessed fine character traits and great humility. He knew how to bring life and energy into situations and put a smile on his friends’ faces in any circumstance. He studied Torah and served G-d out of a desire for identification and deep personal connection).”

The Elon Moreh Yeshiva published a mourning notice following his death:

“Ohad, the brother of yeshiva alumnus Amitai Yaari, and nephew of yeshiva alumnus Yehoshua Sherman, whose son Yehuda, of blessed memory, was killed in a terrorist attack near Havat Shuva Yisrael approximately two and a half months ago.”

Ohad was killed as a result of an accidental discharge of a firearm. The incident is under investigation by the Military Police Criminal Investigation Division (MPCID).

Shahar Gamla (23) from Natur in the southern Golan Heights, an officer in the Egoz Unit,  also died of wounds sustained in battle. Gamla was critically wounded by an explosive drone strike in Lebanon on the night between Thursday and Friday. He was evacuated to a hospital but succumbed to his wounds during Shabbat.
