JERUSALEM (VINnews) – A Brooklyn-based Orthodox Jewish real estate developer is in advanced negotiations to acquire Israeli airline Arkia, according to a report Tuesday by Israeli news outlet Kikar Hashabbat.

The report identified the prospective buyer as Ezra Unger, 36, a real estate developer from Brooklyn’s Borough Park neighborhood.
People close to Unger told Kikar Hashabbat that one motivation behind the proposed acquisition is a desire to end the airline’s commercial flights on Shabbat.
Neither Arkia nor Unger has publicly confirmed the reported negotiations. No purchase price, company valuation or financing details have been disclosed, and it remains unclear how any deal would be financed or whether Unger intends to proceed with the acquisition.
Arkia declined to comment on the reported sale discussions.
If completed, the acquisition would mark the second time in recent years that a major Israeli airline has come under the control of an Orthodox Jewish businessman with New York ties. In 2020, El Al was acquired by Eli Rozenberg, who grew up in the Orthodox Jewish community in Monsey, New York, after purchasing a controlling stake in Israel’s flag carrier.
No official announcement confirming an agreement for the sale of Arkia has been made.

I too am in talks (with myself) of buying out not only this airline but along with United Airlines. It just didn’t make it to CNN yet.
So they can charge outrageously high for non stop flight to Israel? Elal flight are $6000 or more. Goyishe airlines $2000 . Busha
Notin with Shabbat, the guy needs $ to buy it……
Fake news
motivation behind the proposed acquisition is a desire to end the airline’s commercial flights on Shabbat , ya sure if you believe it, I got a nice bridge to sell you…
but doesn’t El Al fly on Shabbat??
Ezra!
LOL!
Dont know about the deal…. but you got some PR!
Let’s see who is really “Educated”
If you’re on a Chasidish airline which leaves a minimum of 2 hours late & it takes 47 minutes to rearrange the seating to separate men & women, should you block the galley with a Minyan as they’re starting food service or wait til the flight attendant is already in the aisle?
I don’t think this is a good idea in the current situation. It is much better for People to CHOOSE to keep Shabbos, than to force them.
We were created with a Bechira Chofshis “muscle”
If you inhibit this critical function, I fear you will trigger a visceral response fueled by the yetzer hora fighting for its survival.
That being said, we can make a Kiddush hashem by being respectful of the needs and realities of those who have different experiences.
That’s what ultimately turns yiddishe neshamos back to Hashem.
People vote for shemiras shabbos by booking flights that will get to the destination with enough time to keep Shabbos properly.
Supply and Demand Always wins.
Market manipulation causes resentment.
Experienced and educated players know this. Young people sometimes don’t figure this out until they have been in the field longer.
I dont mind being wrong.
I guess time will tell.
I’d like to address this subject from a different perspective. We know that Hashem provides our Parnassah so the obvious question is, “Why don’t people just stay in bed all day or sit in Yeshiva all day?” The answer, of course, is that Hashem provides our sustenance but we must make Hishtadlus. The reason that children during the school years must avail themselves of the learning opportunities is so that they can become, as adults, repositories for Hashem’s blessings. Presently, in many Chareidi yeshivas the message is to view all secular subjects as Tried. So they’re essentially telling the boys that they have four choices. One, become a billionaire through real estate and or investing. Two steal. Three short. Four work in a grocery store. That’s not a viable model.
Pilots will have to wear hats and black coats while manning the aircraft and of course only after they immersed in the Mikva the previous morning. Steady minyanim mincha – maariv. Tzeduka collectors. OMG. I am out.
Will satmar fly thsi airline or is this like the treifna ELAL
