NEW YORK (VINnews) — Two Jewish men were stabbed Thursday on Manhattan’s Upper West Side in an attack that authorities are investigating as a possible hate crime, government officials said.

According to the NYPD, a 40-year-old man was stabbed in the back while walking on a sidewalk. Moments later, the suspect allegedly stabbed a 50-year-old man in the chest nearby at West 86th Street and Central Park West.
The suspect was taken into custody, and the investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to determine whether the attack was motivated by antisemitism.
New York City Council Speaker Julie Menin condemned the attack, saying she was “absolutely sickened and furious” by what appeared to be an antisemitic stabbing.

“While we await additional details to be confirmed, we know that what is happening in our city is abhorrent,” Menin wrote on X. “The fear in the Jewish community is real. Every New Yorker deserves to feel safe in their neighborhood, regardless of their faith or identity.”
Menin thanked the NYPD for its swift response in apprehending the suspect and said her prayers were with the victims and their loved ones.

This afternoon, two people were stabbed in separate attacks on the Upper West Side. Both victims — an Asian male and a Jewish male — were removed to Mt. Sinai-St. Luke’s Hospital, and both are expected to survive.

One victim was Jewish. The assailant, Raul Morales, attacked a 57-year-old Chok Sung, according to a law enforcement . The second victim was Moshe Yezhak Grunhaus, a 50-year-old man, the official said. Morales yelled “Allahu akbar” as he attacked both men, according to accounts from the victims and witnesses.
