WASHINGTON D.C (VINnews)-Republican strategist Josh Holmes cautioned Democrats on Sunday that nominating an extreme candidate in Michigan could jeopardize their chances of winning a critical Senate seat and securing a majority.

Holmes, a former chief of staff to Sen. Mitch McConnell and co-host of the Ruthless podcast, made the comments during an appearance on Fox News.
“They could very well nominate a candidate who is absolutely unelectable in Michigan, a state they have to win if they want a Senate majority,” Holmes said. “So I would be worried if I were them.”
Michigan’s open Senate seat, being vacated by retiring Democratic Sen. Gary Peters, is widely viewed as a must-win race for Democrats seeking to flip control of the chamber. The Democratic primary has featured a competitive contest between more moderate and progressive contenders, highlighting internal party divisions.
Holmes’s warning reflects broader Republican messaging that progressive nominees in swing states risk alienating moderate voters and handing Republicans an advantage in the general election.
Michigan remains a key battleground in the fight for Senate control, with both parties investing heavily in the race.
