BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. (VINnews) — A 3-year-old girl died after becoming trapped in a toy kitchen playset while at a babysitter’s home in Boynton Beach, and authorities say the investigation remains ongoing.

Police said officers responded to the home on July 23 after receiving a report of an unresponsive child. Officers began CPR before Boynton Beach Fire Rescue transported the girl to a hospital in critical condition. She died several days later.
Investigators said the child was playing with a sibling when toys fell inside an older wooden toy kitchen. Detectives said the sibling reported that the girl became trapped while trying to retrieve the toys.
According to police, the babysitter had left the residence, leaving the children in the care of the babysitter’s spouse. Investigators said the spouse was upstairs and checking on the children periodically. During one of those visits, the spouse found the girl trapped inside the playset, freed her and immediately began life-saving measures.
Authorities have not released the medical cause of the child’s death or said how long she may have been trapped before she was discovered. Investigators also have not identified the manufacturer or model of the toy kitchen, saying it was an older wooden playset purchased secondhand several years earlier.
The incident comes after the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission recalled nearly 192,000 KidKraft wooden play kitchens in 2025 following the death of a 23-month-old Oregon boy whose clothing became caught on a hook attached to the back of the product, creating a strangulation hazard. Authorities have not indicated that the Boynton Beach incident involved the recalled playset or is related to that recall.
Police have not announced whether the case has been referred for criminal review, and no charges have been filed. The investigation remains active.

I have seen a 2 year old kid climb into the hole where the sink fits in a wooden kitchen (she had removed the plastic sink), and she couldn’t get out. Stress causes inflammation, so the space was getting tighter for her.
If Adults were not there and she had panicked, it could have resulted in tragedy.
Children are NOT miniature adults. They need supervision. They need attention. But most of all, they need responsible adults who use critical thinking to keep them safe.
Terrible and scary story. But because of freak accidents you cannot recall a product. Everything under the sun can cause damage in a one-in-a-million situation.
